Language arts curriculum for Ka`ala students is based on McGraw-Hill Wonders Language Arts Program. Wonders ELA is the research-based Common Core Standards state-selected language arts curriculum for elementary schools.
Several teachers at multiple grade levels piloted the curriculum with their students during Semester 2 of 2013. Full implementation of Wonders began in August 2014. Teachers extend writing opportunities beyond the Wonders curriculum, supported by the curriculum coordinator and professional development activities. Ongoing professional conversations and collaboration, as well as student proficiency data, guide Wonders implementation pre-K to grade 5.
